Weekend of April 8-11
Our weekends around here start on Thursday, which is very nice. On Thursday I headed into town to get a birthday present for my friend Ally because her birthday was on Saturday. That night was sure busy. I did another interview with the interview committee for the assistant directors of residence and catering for the next two semesters. It was our last one for the week. They had gotten pretty time consuming, but then on Monday we made our decision. After that we had a host family ceilidh. The people who have host families here had them come for the dance and then some cake afterwards. I love doing the Scottish dances. We did the Polka, Dashing White Sergeant, the Jig and many more! To end the night I skyped with my roommate from school. I hadn't talked to her in forever!
Friday I was up early because we were headed to Rosslyn Chapel. We took a very interesting bus there. It was one of the city's but it was not in good condition at all. It had a flat tire and was slower than molasses. Like my mom had warned me, the chapel really was covered in scaffolding. The nice thing about it is that we got to climb up the scaffolding to the top and look out over the surrounding area. We also got to see a lot of the peaks up close along with all the detailing. The chapel is actually still used to weddings and funerals. We headed back to Dalkeith around noon. Some friends and I ate lunch outside, enjoying the weather. That night we had a bonfire down by the river in the estate grounds. The fire wasn't started when I got down there, but two other girls were working on it. We eventually got it started and I kept it stoked all night. It really reminded me of being home. It ended up being an awesome night! Just about everybody made a trip down to the fire at one point in the night. We all were just enjoying hanging out and at midnight we sang happy birthday to Ally.
On Saturday morning we were rationed our utensils in the servery because people had not been cleaning up after themselves. It is sad that when you are in college you still haven't learned to clean up after yourself, however, after that weekend I know I sure made a point of cleaning up more. In the afternoon we went to a Hearts football (soccer) match. It was an experience I had never had before. We could tell when we were getting close to the stadium on the bus because the area was packed with people decked out in Hearts attire. The weird thing about going to any sporting event here is that they can not have alcohol in the stadium, but they were pretty rowdy even without it. The Hearts won by one goal. When back in Dalkeith a lot of us girls were getting ready to go into Edinburgh for Ally's birthday. We had a great night out at the club.
Sunday I was pretty productive in the afternoon. I knew it was time to get ready for the week ahead because I was going to be off to London.
