Day 8 - Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, and on to Naples

On today, Thursday, we went our separate ways again. Two of the girls, Rachel and Sanci, wanted to stay around Rome and I was going with the group that went to Naples. Before we left though we went to the Vatican Museums and saw the Sistine Chapel. The line was long, which we had been warned about, but when we left it was even longer than before we went in. Of course there was a lot of security to get into it. There was so much to look at and see inside about the Pope and past popes along with the history of the Catholic church. However, we wanted to see Michaelangelo's painting in the Sistine Chapel. On the way to the Chapel we looked at a lot of paintings, wall hangings, and statues. It was a very moving experience to be in the Chapel. There were to be no pictures taken and people were only whispering. I saw where the fingers of the two men were almost touching and in line with each other. When we were done we got lunch off the street and then got our stuff from the hostel so we could make our way to the train station. We were headed to Naples, which we thought was going to be super nice and have a great beach for us to lay on. It had neither of those to offer to us. We stayed in a cheap hotel that was really close to the train station. The train station was in a very sketchy area of town. We stayed at Hotel Zara and lucky for us it was very clean and nice on the inside. The building it was in was not clean, though. We walked around town in the late afternoon looking for gelato, but we found none. It was very sad. On our walk back to the hotel right in front of it we all saw a RAT in the street! EW! I fell asleep early and woke up with toilet paper covering me, thanks to the girls.
