Friday
We were served our "sack" breakfasts and on the coach bus to Bowhill Estate around 8:45 am. The bus was very interesting one, not like regular coach buses. It had three seats on one side and two on the other. They definitely were not made for girls.
The ride to the Estate was gorgeous. The rolling hills of the countryside and the grazing sheep were so nice to see. A lot of the countryside reminds me of what it's like back home. The trees here are much taller, though.
Once at the Estate we got to do a self guided tour around the rooms. Bowhill Estate is where the Buccleuchs live. They are the Duke and Duchess that own the Dalkeith Castle where I live. There was even a room that was called the Dalkeith room. The furniture and bedding was what used to be in the main flat in my castle. In the "living" room there was a lot of old pieces and then in the corner was a flat screen tv. It just showed us that even with all the historic pieces that we were there to look at, the Duchess and family still live here when visitors aren't around. After the tour we watched a presentation put on by the manager of the estate. It pieced together a lot of the information about our castle and their estate. The manager also told us that hopefully the scaffolding in from of the castle should be taken down by the end of April! YAY! Maybe then I will get pictures without all that junk in them. :)To finish off our trip to Bowhill, I wandered around the walking trails just taking in all the green, scenery. There was even two swans walking across the ice on the lake behind the Estate. We departed from the Estate and headed to a small town for snacks, coffee or lunch. After lunch we then went to Melrose Abbey for a couple of hours. It wasn't quite what I was expecting it to be. There just wasn't a lot to see. The ruins of the abbey church were huge and we climbed to the top. Once again, great view of the city and great for pictures! It is the place the Robert Bruce's heart is believed to be buried, however, I didn't find it. I wasn't feeling to good after lunch so I just wanted to go sit in the coffee shop. They served us some great tea and hot chocolate. We left for Scott's View around 4. It was on top of a huge hill and overlooked the valley of the River Tweed. I took some more beautiful pictures of the scenery.
Yesterday was a long day so I slept in today. I planned on going to the Farmer's Market in Edinburgh, but decided not to. I have too much stuff to get done today. Tonight I also want to go on the pub crawl for the first time with a group of us from the castle. Tomorrow a group of us going to the car-boot sale. I have been told it is like a huge garage sale. People bring their cars and in the "boots" (trunks) of the cars they sell their stuff. After that we are going to a comedy show. Should be an interesting day!
