I went on spring break to Greece and Italy for 10 days with a group of seven girls. As cliche` as it sounds, it was a definitely a life learning experience. We dealt with so many situations and people that I would have never dreamed of happening or having to deal with in America. But now onto the good stories of my adventures!
We got a taxi for 6:15 am to take us to the Edinburgh Airport. We flew with Agean Air. The flight was actually quite nice. We got to watch the Blindside on it. They also served us a meal, which consisted of Greek salad, a roll, pasta, and dessert. The plane was very warm, though. When we about to arrived in Greece looking out the plane windows made me think of the cute scenes you see in movies. It was so exciting, the little white houses and blue sea. Well we were about to find out what Greece was really like, after having spent five days there. After we got off the plane we took the bus to city centre, Syntagma. It was kind of nerve-racking because none of us were quite sure where we were supposed to get off of it at or just which stop was ours, if it was the last one or not. We ended up asking somebody just to be sure. Then once there we had to take the trolley bus to our hostel. It was not easy at all trying to make sure we got on the 2 or 11, just because those were the two our directions told us to use. The one 2 told us he was not going to that stop, sadly. Then we ended up having a creepy guy with a beer following us to the trolleys. After awhile he just went away and we finally got a trolley. On top of just making sure we had the correct trolley, we all had our luggage. I was carrying around a huge travelers hiking bag on my bag along with my carry-on. It was SUPER heavy! Once we were at the stop it was actually quite easy to get to the hostel. There were just not a lot of signs for it saying where it was located. It was called Pagration. We definitely did not get what we were expecting. Dee the lady in charge just let us down with all of her information - there was no breakfast, we had to pay for showers that were only 7 minutes, and there were also no towels. But we learned our lesson about reading reviews about hostels, check to see if the people are from the United States or not because other people have different standards of living. About the only good piece of information she did give us was where we could find cheap gyros right down the street. We went there just about every night while we were in Greece because they were so good and so cheap. After our late night dinner we sort of unpacked and reorganized ourselves then hit the sack because Friday was going to be a big day of sight-seeing around Athens.
